Two primary reasons why discerning golfers choose Wilderness Country Club are the secluded golf course and the remarkable Audubon cooperative sanctuary which showcase the best of southwest Florida nature every day. Wilderness was established in the 1970’s and its name is perfectly aligned with the beautiful grounds that surround the golf course and living space. As soon as you enter the gated community you will be struck by the majestic trees and native landscape that dominate the property in every direction. When the club contacted Sanford Golf Design they had a strong desire to preserve the natural golf course setting.
Having worked on restorations of Joe Lee, Dick Wilson, George Fazio, Donald Ross and other notable architects Sanford Golf Design had the right experience. Restorations don’t always fit financial and market analysis but when a club decides to be the custodians of classic design we feel our appreciation for the history of golf course design separates us. We owe it to the game to help preserve and restore the best designs of the architects who preceded us.
